About the Escondido Downtown Business Association: Over 60 Years of Community Service

Updated: Mar 18

Our Mission

The Escondido Downtown Business Association is an all-volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)(6) organization dedicated to the marketing, support, and preservation of Escondido's Historic Downtown Business District. Since 1962, we have worked to strengthen our local business community, promote arts and culture, and create vibrant experiences that bring residents and visitors together on Grand Avenue and beyond.

A Rich History on Grand Avenue

Downtown Escondido has been the heart of our city since its founding in 1888. Grand Avenue, our vibrant main street, has served as the gathering place for generations of families, business owners, artists, and visitors. The Downtown Business Association was established in 1962 to ensure that this historic district continues to thrive, connecting our agricultural roots with a forward-looking vision for arts, culture, and commerce.

What We Do

As an all-volunteer organization, every dollar raised and every hour spent goes directly toward supporting our downtown businesses and community. Our work includes organizing signature events that draw tens of thousands of visitors annually, advocating for business-friendly policies, promoting local arts and culture, and creating partnerships that strengthen the economic vitality of Historic Downtown Escondido.

Our Signature Events

Throughout the year, we produce and support events that celebrate the unique character of Downtown Escondido:

Escondido Street Festival — Grand Avenue transforms into a vibrant street fair with live music, hundreds of vendors, a Beer and Wine Garden, and Art in the Garden showcasing incredible local artwork. This beloved tradition has been a spring and fall staple for over 30 years.

2nd Saturday Arts Walk — Every second Saturday of the month, residents and visitors stroll downtown to explore galleries, murals, public art, and eclectic shops. This free community event highlights the creative spirit of Escondido.

For the Love of Chocolate Festival — Our signature ticketed event pairs gourmet chocolates with local wines and craft beers across nearly 20 downtown tasting locations. Capped at 350 attendees, it sells out every year.

Holiday Events — From the Holiday Market at Maple Street Plaza and the Ups-N-Downtown Roller Rink to the Tree Lighting Ceremony and Small Business Saturday, the holiday season in Downtown Escondido is full of community celebrations.

Arts and Culture

Downtown Escondido is home to Esco Alley Art, a beautifully eclectic outdoor mural exhibit displayed on alley walls throughout the district. These stunning murals, revealed in phases and each accompanied by QR codes linking to artist information, have become a beloved attraction. Our downtown galleries feature work from both world-renowned and emerging artists, serving as cultural hubs that shape the Escondido art scene.
