Historic Downtown Escondido, established in 1886, is the Cultural Heart of San Diego North County. Enjoy over 27 Art Galleries and studios, 5 live theaters, the world-renowned Mingei International Museum, a Children's Museum, The Escondido History Center and California Center for the Arts. Restaurants, bistros, and unique boutiques line the charming downtown. In addition there are many professional services, such as dental, medical, automotive repair and financial, for your convenience while you visit downtown.

The Downtown Business Association of Escondido (DBA) oversees a comprehensive Downtown Revitalization Program, following the National Main Street approach, for a 68 square block area in Downtown Escondido. This assessment district was organized in 1989, at the request of business owners, to promote the business environment in the district. Its programs cover:

• Marketing
• Special Events
• Design Guidance and Historic Preservation
• Economic Development
• Security and Maintenance Advocacy
• Community Enhancement

The DBA is also the steward of the Business Improvement District. The BID ensures the continuance of on-going business advocacy, revitalization efforts, and promotion in Downtown Escondido on behalf of every business located in the BID.
